Wind Sounds Returns on KMFA!
In May of 2007, Classical 89.5 KMFA launched a new series called
Wind Sounds.
This unique series explores an almost endless variety of music composed for and performed by wind ensembles, bands, and wind instruments.
Wind Sounds is the brainchild of longtime volunteer and member Douglass Shands.
During recent years Shands heard a desire expressed for more wind ensemble music on KMFA.
Upon exploring the idea with station staff for a program comprised entirely of wind music,
he discovered a plethora of music transcribed for winds. In fact, some pieces of music were originally
written for winds then later made popular in orchestral versions.
Wind Sounds is produced locally in the studios of KMFA by Douglass Shands and Philip Pollack, and hosted by long-time KMFA afternoon announcer
Rich Upton. Returning for its third season, Wind Sounds will broadcast every Saturday at 5:00 P.M., May 2 through November 28 on
Classical 89.5, KMFA, Austin. Those not in the listening area may receive the streaming audio webcast from here.
For more information about Wind Sounds, click here.
Wind Sounds now has its own
website.
.
Please check Wind Sounds out, and if you like it, let KMFA know!
This can take the form of letters, e-mail, phone calls (512-476-KMFA), and most effectively, pledges to support KMFA, Austin's only listener-supported 24-hour Classical Music station.

Welcome
to the home page of the Austin Symphonic Band, the official band of the City of Austin. Under the baton
of Music Director Richard Floyd, this Texas-based group has become one of this nation's premier volunteer concert bands. The band was awarded the John Philip Sousa Foundation's coveted Sudler Silver Scroll in 1993.
The band's 2008-2009 season extends the band's tradition of bringing quality music to the community
with the continuation of our three-concert Indoor Concert Series.
The Series features themed concerts and fine guest artists. Our first Indoor Concert will be "Director's Choice," at the Reagan High School PAC.
Our second Indoor Concert, "Songs of the South," will take place at the Connally High School PAC.
Our Guest Soloist will be Dale Underwood, Alto Sax. Our third and final Indoor Concert
will be "ASB Goes To The Opera," which will be presented in the
Don T. Haynes Theater at LBJ High School.
Please click here for season details.
As always, the band will present free concerts at the Zilker Park Hillside Theatre in the fall, on Mother's Day, and on Father's Day, as well as other
events which will allow us to make music more accessible to the greater Austin community.
The Microband takes this a step further by bringing light, fun music to senior activity centers and nursing homes in the area.
